North Carolina A&T senior guard Jordyn Dorsey earned a spot on the HBCU All-America women’s basketball first team, while the Aggies’ Tarrell Robinson was honored as the Co-National Coach of the Year. The awards were presented by BOXTOROW.

Robinson collected his second Coach of the Year honor from BOXTOROW, previously garnering the accolade In the 2017-18 season. The 2025 CAA Coach of the Year led the Aggies to their first CAA regular season title after just three years as a conference member with a 19-10 overall record and 15-3 run in the conference. A&T spent a majority of the season mentioned in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 Poll under Robinson’s leadership.

Dorsey earned All-American status after being named the HBCU National Player of the Week on March 10. Averaging a career-high 15.6 points so far this season, the Augusta resident sits sixth in the conference with her scoring performance this year, while placing fourth in the CAA with 2.2 steals per game and fifth with 3.8 assists. A member of the All-CAA First Team and All-CAA Defensive Team, Dorsey took home CAA Player of the Week Honors twice this season.

Robinson and Dorsey’s season isn’t done yet, as the Aggies accepted an invitation to the WBIT and will face No.1 Virginia Tech in the tournament on Thursday at 6 p.m. from Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Virginia. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

North Carolina A&T, Campbell and Charleston Seasons Continue With WBIT & WNIT

Reigning CAA regular season champion North Carolina A&T will make its debut in the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT), slated to face top-seeded Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., on Tuesday. Campbell and Charleston will also be competing in the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT).

Coverage of the WBIT will be available on ESPN’s family of networks and streaming, with the first three rounds available on ESPN+. The semifinals will be aired on ESPNU before the April 2 championship game is nationally televised on ESPN2.

The Aggies will look to become the second straight CAA team to topple one of the tournament’s top seeds, joining last year’s Stony Brook squad that upset James Madison, 81-70.

North Carolina A&T Head Coach Tarrell Robinson was voted by his peers as the CAA Coach of the Year. Under Robinson, the Aggies posted a 19-10 record overall, boasting a 15-3 in conference play en route to the program’s first CAA regular season crown. A&T also spent significant time ranked in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 Poll this season. The Aggies are top 15 in the nation with 55.3 points allowed per game.

The Cougars will look to build off its early exit in the WNIT last season, after defeating USC Upstate in the first round before falling to Illinois State.

Charleston earned a 24-7 record, setting a new program record for the most wins in a season in the Division I era. Led by CAA Player of the Year Taryn Barbot, the Cougars rank amongst the nation’s best with an 18.1 scoring margin that is good for 15th in the nation, while sitting 3rd in the country averaging 23.71 forced turnovers per game.

Campbell is set to make its second-ever appearance in the WNIT, after its 2022 tournament debut. After falling in the first round 50-44 to Liberty, both Audrey Fuller and Courtney Dahlquist will look to make a deeper run in the tournament than the duo did just a few years prior.

With 21 wins to its name, Ronny Fisher’s side recorded the most victories in a season since 2021-22 after being picked eighth in the CAA Preseason Poll. The Camels made it to the conference finals, knocking off the second seed along the way. Campbell is an extremely well-rounded team, with six players scoring eight or more points per game, including Gianni Boone’s team-high 11.2.

Coastal Athletic Association has announced its postseason awards for the 2024- 25 season.

Voting was conducted in a poll of the CAA’s 14 head coaches following the conclusion of the regular season. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players. Recipients will be recognized at their respective games at the Credit Union 1 CAA Women’s Basketball Championship, beginning on March 12 at CareFirst Arena in Washington, D.C.

For the time in its program’s history, a Charleston player has been named CAA Player of the Year as Taryn Barbot took home the honor. Tabbed the CAA Preseason Player of the Year, the sophomore guard lived up to expectations, ranking second in the conference with 16.6 points per game. Barbot was a volume scoere all-season long, posting nine games with 20+ points with four of them being 30+ point-games. Last season’s CAA Rookie of the Year also earned a spot on the All-CAA Defensive Team and All-CAA First Team.

UNCW’s Ali Zelaya was named CAA Defensive Player of the Year after a season which saw her rank amongst the nation’s best in blocks and rebounding. Swatting away 79 shots this season, the forward ranked ninth in the nation at 2.55 tallies per game, while she hauled in 9.2 rebounds to sit first in the conference and 51st in the country. Offensively, Zelaya posted a team-high 12.4 points per game contributing to her spot on the All-CAA First Team.

Elon’s Jayda Angel balled out in her first collegiate season, garnering CAA Rookie of the Year honors. The first-year Phoenix guard was the second highest scorer on her team, averaging 10.0 points per game alongside 4.0 rebounds. The North Carolina native took home CAA Rookie of the Week accolades an impressive five times, the most amongst any freshman in the conference this season.

Angel was also voted as the CAA Sixth Player of the Year, providing the biggest spark off the bench in the conference this year. She scored double digits in 13 of her contests, while ranking amongst the league’s leaders with 46 steals.

Rewarded for her work in the classroom and on the court, Elon’s Raven Preston was honored as the CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year. A member of the All-CAA Second Team, the Phoenix guard led her team with 12.2 points per game and grabbed a team-high 8.5 rebounds per contest. Off the court, the exercise science major posted an impressive 3.84 grade point average.

Stony Brook’s Shamarla King was named the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award recipient, granted to a student athlete who embodies the highest standards of leadership, integrity and sportsmanship in conjunction with her academic and athletic achievement. Captaining the Seawolves this season, King averaged nine points and seven rebounds per game while being a member of the Stony Brook SAAC Group. The graduate student guard is currently working on an advanced certificate in higher education after earning her degree in mass communications.

Barbot goes back-to-back-to-back as the CAA Player of the Week, after she averaged 26.0 points alongside 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals during a two-game stretch. In a top-four conference battle against Campbell, the Floral Park resident had 21 points alongside six boards in the 75-54 win. Barbot’s hot form continued when she dropped 31, leading the Cougars to a 93-66 win over Hampton. The sophomore guard has scored 20+ points in her last four games, and now has four games of 30 or more this season.

Dorsey lifted N.C. A&T to its first CAA Regular Season title, averaging 25.0 points with 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in the Aggies 2-0 weekend. With a share of the title on the line, the senior guard charted a career-high 27 points to post a 77-52 win over William & Mary. Two days later against UNCW, Dorsey had 23 as A&T claimed the outright regular season title. She has also made 22 consecutive free throws, including a perfect 15 for 15 from the line last weekend.

CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Corbett averaged 14.0 points and 3.5 rebounds as the Pride won a pair of home contests to close out the season on a five-game win streak. In Hofstra’s 73-70 overtime win against Stony Brook, the freshman forward scored 12 points on 80% shooting and was a perfect 4 for 4 from the charity stripe as the team erased an eight-point deficit. Corbett led the team with 16 points as Hofstra moved past Northeastern 69-53 just two days later.

CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Staten averaged a double-double of 13.5 points and 10.5 rebounds to earn her first CAA recognition. In a close 49-43 victory over Elon, the freshman center set her career-high with 15 points alongside eight boards to help Northeastern take its second conference win of the season. Staten closed out the weekend with a 12-point and 13-rebound performance against Hofstra. The Statesboro graduate scored on an impressive .733 clip from the field, while also averaging 2.0 blocks.
